Harp

Belgrade born, The Netherlands based, Milana finished her undergraduate studies in harp performance with distinction at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts, Belgrade, before she went to London in the year 2000. She was awarded scholarships for Postgraduate Advanced Diploma at Trinity College of Music, where she studied with Gabriella dall’Olio, Imogen Barford and Sioned Williams.

During the course of her studies, Milana was given a special award at the Summer music academy Chigiana in Siena, Italy. She attended masterclasses with Fabrice Pierre, Helga Storck, Brigitte Sylvestre, Isabelle Perrin and Susanna Mildonian. She has performed in major halls in London, such as Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall and Westminster Abbey, also giving solo recitals in Fairfield Halls and Old Royal Naval College Chapel.

Milana was principal harpist in the Opera of Serbian national theatre in Novi Sad 2004 - 2005. Since 2005 she has held the position of principal harpist of the Belgrade Philharmonic orchestra, in which she regularly performs under top international conductors and soloists.

Milana is the founding member of flute,viola and harp trio Timbre, with whom she performed throughout Serbia. She has participated in festivals such are Music Biennale Zagreb, International harp festival, International Review of composers, and renowned BITEF and BEMUS festivals in Belgrade. As soloist and chamber musician she has performed in Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Great Britain, The Netherlands, Romania, Sweden, Austria, France and Czech Republic.

In december 2007. she has appeared as soloist with the Belgrade string orchestra Dušan Skovran, under David Porcelijn. In february 2008. she has, with critical acclaim, given a Serbian premiere of Andre Caplet’s La conte fantastique, for harp solo with chamber orchestra Ljubica Marić.

In 2009. she has received a scholarship for research in contemporary music and improvisation at the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague. In the Netherlands, she is active as soloist, improviser and in ensembles for new music, such as the Nieuw/Atlas ensemble, Omnibus, Modelo62 and Ligeti academy ensembles. Her Master thesis is based on a plucked strings and percussion ensemble Echoes, whom she founded, and with whom she plays free improvised music. As an improviser, she has recently performed with Richard Barrett's electro acoustic ensemble, and with Peter van Bergen's IOM at Doek Festival in Musiekgebow.

Milana is currently active in giving first performances of solo pieces by composers based in the Netherlands. So far, she has commissioned 6 pieces from H.Morales, T.Stepancic, J.Velickovic, F.Hubner, Y.Gibson and R.Manthey. She will be performing a solo recital in Theatre de Regentes in The Hague in June 2011, as part of the New Music Festival.
